asthma & allergy friendly® Certification Program Clients
Tarkett and Benjamin Moore , our clients from the Certification Program, will also have booths at the conference. It is an honour to be working with clients such as these to highlight how they are working to create a healthier and sustainable indoor environment. Greenbuild is a wonderful opportunity for Allergy Standards to reinforce how our science is leading the way in healthier CERTIFIED building materials. It allows us showcase the asthma & allergy friendly® Certification Program and how manufacturers are utilizing it to create better products. Attendees can learn about the scientific process, standards and best practices associated with sustainable building materials within the context of reducing allergens and irritants that can trigger asthma symptoms.
Indoor Air Quality
The COVID-19 pandemic has catapulted indoor air quality to the top of the priority list in the building industry. Good indoor air is now an integral part of a healthy, sustainable home and Greenbuild will bring together top leaders in this field allowing us to share our professional insights on how to improve indoor air quality. The new concept in the building industry is people and health centred, rather than building centred. Too often, building materials and products are chosen from a narrow, unilateral point of view. To align with society forces, this must be broadened so that materials are not just the right choice for the build in question, but the right choice for the health and well-being of the people who live and work in the building.
Dr. John McKeon, CEO of Allergy Standards, will speak at the conference on Tuesday 10th November in a discussion entitled ‘Why Indoor Air Matters’ hosted by Tarkett, valued clients of the Certification Program. John, along with Chris Hsieh (Systems Engineer with Trane), Sarah Enaharo (Product Sustainability Manager with Tarkett) and Tracy Enger (Program Manager with the EPA) will discuss how to achieve the healthiest possible indoor environment through product selection, material health, and efficient HVAC systems.
“The challenge for building professionals is to move the conversation on from a purely engineering focus such as heating, ventilation, and energy efficiency, to a healthy focus based on the perspectives of the people living in the dwelling. Not all building materials are the same and we need to do more to make the concept of air, which is ‘invisible’, visible through relating it to people’s health and wellness”, says Dr. John McKeon.
