CERTIFIED Pure Safety® µhigh Performance Insulation

Owens Corning’s Pure Safety® High Performance Insulation has received the 2021 “Green Innovation of the Year Award” from Green Builder Magazine. Every year, Green Builder recognises innovative products that enhance sustainability and make tangible progress towards reducing the impact of building on the environment.

Pure Safety® High Performance Insulation was the first insulation to be awarded certification by the asthma & allergy friendly® Certification Program, an independent third party certification program jointly run by Allergy Standards Ltd (ASL) and the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA).

ASL subjects a wide variety of products to both physical and chemical testing to ensure that they do not have properties that are likely to irritate both asthma and allergy symptoms in susceptible people. In the case of insulation, different aspects of the insulation are evaluated, including a full constituent review and evaluation of airborne particle fibers and dust release during installation and disturbance. Then, evaluation of the ability of the insulation to support fungal growth is carried out and, finally, it is subjected to volatile organic compound (VOC) emission testing. Having undergone this stringent testing, Pure Safety® High Performance Insulation met the requirements for the asthma & allergy friendly® scientific standard.

Pure Safety® High Performance Insulation also features excellent energy efficiency with an R-value of 15, which has been newly expanded to R-21, R-30 and R-38 in 2021. In addition, Pure Safety® Insulation is fire-resistant and achieves up to 50% reduction in noise levels, another important consideration in the work-at-home environment. Designed with insulation contractors in mind, Pure Safety® is safe and easy to handle, install and cut. It is also exceptionally durable, dimensionally stable and will not slump in wall cavities.

The COVID-19 pandemic has spotlighted the importance of indoor air quality because the global population is spending more hours at home for virtual work and schooling. The emphasis on health and wellness, which has been accelerated by the pandemic, is now extending to the design and systems within today’s homes, with health, sustainability and safety being the core pillars driving innovation.

ASL is proud to have Owens Corning as clients and to be working together to improve lives by empowering people create the healthiest possible indoor environment through science, education and innovation. We are delighted to extend congratulations to them on their win of this prestigious award.
