Joining the US Green Building Council (USGBC) is further confirmation of Allergy Standards’ (ASL) commitment to a sustainable and prosperous future through the development of greener communities worldwide.
What is the US Green Building Council?
The US Green Building Council is a non-profit organisation committed to a sustainable, prosperous future through Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), the leading program for green buildings and communities worldwide.
The US Green Building Council is a movement of community leaders, professionals, businesses and innovators working to accomplish a single vision: healthy, efficient and equitable.
Allergy Standards’ commitment to healthier buildings
Greener communities means not only more sustainable buildings, but healthier buildings. According to the EPA, the indoor air can be 2 to 5 times more contaminated by pollutants than outdoor air. Indoor air pollution is one of the most serious environmental threats to our health (read WebMD article), due to the potential chemicals and allergens in our homes, introduced through products such as textiles and paints.
Allergy Standards has committed its expertise and its science to improving the indoor environment.
As part of our mission towards healthier buildings, we developed the asthma & allergy friendly® Certification Program. This Certification Program allows companies to confidently ensure consumers that their products are suitable for those suffering from allergies and asthma, improving their indoor environment. The objective of the Certification Program is also to make such products easily identifiable for the consumers looking to improve their indoor air quality.
Allergy Standards’ involvement with the LEED program
The USGBC is the world’s leading educator on green buildings and related certification projects such as the LEED program. They provide exclusive training to members focusing on these areas. The LEED program is the most widely used green building rating system in the world providing a framework to create healthy, highly efficient and cost-saving green buildings. As a member of the USGBC, ASL now has access to the exclusive training courses, resources and expertise available through the LEED program and the USGBC. These resources will enable the ASL team to offer the best possible service to our clients and partners. We look forward to engaging with the program and the wider USGBC community.
