Allergy Standards hosted September’s International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC) working group meetings in Dublin, Ireland from September 25th to 27th, 2018. The meetings gather consumer interest groups, national standards bodies, independent testing labs and experts in manufacturing to discuss and propose consensus-based performance standards for industry.
It was a great opportunity for ASL to organise and hold the IEC meeting in Dublin, Ireland, where are based our headquarters.

Who was at the event?
What topics were addressed?
The working groups; IEC WG9 and CENELEC WG6 are engaged in the development of Vacuum Cleaner performance standards. CENELEC WG6 under European Mandate U M/353 has the responsibility for “Elaboration and adoption of Measurement Standards” for household Vacuum Cleaners. WG9 is responsible for carpets and other Testing Materials currently specified in standards maintained and planned by the IEC.
What are the outcomes of the meeting?
Working group meetings discuss the development of performance standards, including the testing methods, various performance criteria and variability in testing. These standards are essential in ensuring that vacuum cleaners that make it to market have been adequately tested to meet specific performance standards without unnecessary cost on the consumer. It is important that standards are maintained, and products on the market have been adequately tested.
Next IEC meeting – Where and when?
The next meeting will be held in Frankfurt in early December.
