Gráinne Cunniffe
Science Lead
Gráinne joined ASL in March 2023. In her role as Science Lead, Gráinne is responsible for leading ASL’s research and scientific activities, overseeing the technical testing and consulting work in addition to developing and updating robust certification standards and protocols. Gráinne works to shape research and scientific priorities to align with ASL’s goals and consumer demands, along with producing relevant scientific and education content through publication of research papers, attending conferences and contributing to articles, podcasts and media pertaining to indoor air quality, growing ASL’s significant reputation as a thought leader in the field.
Gráinne graduated from Trinity College Dublin with a first class hons degree in Experimental Physics, before obtaining a Ph.D. in Regenerative Medicine from Queen’s University Belfast. Her postdoctoral research in Royal College of Surgeons focused on bone tissue engineering and gene therapy, before she returned to Trinity College where she managed the biomedical labs in addition to leading a suite of advanced biomaterials and translational pre-clinical research studies. Her research career has focused on purpose-driven and influential science with a health focus, through leadership roles across industry, academia and clinical research.
She was excited to join ASL because of their rigorous scientific integrity and evidence-backed decision making, the ability to collaborate with innovative companies globally and provide leadership and direction to empower people to create the healthiest possible indoor environment, especially for people with asthma and allergies. Gráinne has extended her passion for life-long learning and development with a number of qualifications, including Diplomas in Creativity, Innovation and Entrepreneurship from the UCD Innovation Academy, Lean Six Sigma, Statistics, Design Thinking and Continuous Improvement. Gráinne’s happy places include hiking to mountain tops, dancing at festivals and travelling to new locations, and most evenings she can be found playing tag rugby or socialising with friends, usually both!
