Tumble Dryers that are certified Asthma & Allergy Friendly® are tested by Allergy Standards Limited according to ASP:12:01. The certification process uses an algorithm of proprietary and recognized scientific techniques to assess tumble dryers for their impact on allergen as well as particle levels. As well as this the testing also assesses the ability of the tumble dryer to effectively remove moisture, in order to prevent possible mold growth on laundered items.

Product samples that pass certification testing are granted a certificate stating that the particular tumble dryer meets the requirements for the Asthma & Allergy Friendly® ASP:12:01 Certification Standard.

As well as these allergen based criteria, the tumble dryer must adhere to the Code of Federal Regulations section 21:801.415 requiring ozone exposure to be less than 0.1mg/m3.

The Asthma & Allergy Friendly® certification mark is awarded to those tumble dryers that have been scientifically demonstrated to contribute to the twin goals of source control and allergen removal.

The Tumble Dryer Standard includes:

  1. Evaluating the capability of the tumble dryer to reduce total allergen burden
  2. Assessment of the ability of the tumble dryer to induce mite mortality
  3. Assessment of the efficacy of dryness achieved by the tumble dryer
  4. Assessment of ozone emissions from in-use tumble dryer
  5. Assessment of the tumble dryer for particle production/release

All certified Asthma & Allergy Friendly® Tumble Dryers carry a unique certification code.
