Hybrid System air cleaners incorporating HEPA filtration and ionizers that are certified Asthma & Allergy Friendly® are tested to the ASP:08-05 Air Cleaner (Addendum: Hybrid Systems Incorporating HEPA Filtration and Ionizers) Certification Standard.
The Certification Standard utilizes an algorithm of proprietary and recognized scientific techniques to assess hybrid system air cleaners for their ability to reduce allergenic and irritant materials. Submitted hybrid air cleaner models that pass certification testing are granted a certificate stating that the particular hybrid air cleaner meets the requirements for the Asthma & Allergy Friendly® ASP:08-05 Certification Standard.
Allergy Standards Limited (ASL) subjects the hybrid air cleaner to allergen measure based performance testing to ensure that the hybrid air cleaner reduces total allergen burden that remains airborne. Assessment for Certification requires that the hybrid air cleaner be evaluated in terms of indoor allergen levels that are representative of those found in both air and surface samples of typical homes.
The Asthma & Allergy Friendly® Certification mark is awarded to those hybrid air cleaning products that have been scientifically demonstrated to contribute to the goals of allergen reduction.
The Air Cleaner (Addendum: Hybrid Systems Incorporating HEPA Filtration and Ionizers) Certification Standard includes
- Evaluating the capability of the air cleaner to reduce bio-allergen levels in a defined space.
- Determining that the reduction of bio-allergen represents removal of the bio-allergen and not simply redistribution.
- Assessment of the maximal allowable limit for ozone as a by-product and, in a circumstance where the air cleaner utilizes ionizing systems, assessment of the number of negative and positive ions released by the air cleaner.
All certified Asthma & Allergy Friendly® hybrid air cleaners carry a unique certification code.
