A Testimonial from Tarkett
Roxane Spears is Vice President Sustainability North America and passionately believes in creating purpose driven change in the built environment. In this interview with ASL CEO DR. John McKeon, she describes how what Tarkett is doing is impacting people in their space – their health and their wellness.
..what we do is make floors, but really what we’re doing is impacting people in the space – their health, their wellness – and that’s been a driver for us ever since it just is always held in my memory that what we’re doing matters and I think this certification helps strengthen our position in the marketplace, but also brings to value to the customer for their own health and wellness.
Tarkett uses the asthma & allergy friendly® Certification Program to drive competitive advantage and leverage their unique assets. Its 2021 Corporate Social & Environmental Responsibility (CSR) report outlined the company’s significant sustainability performance, strong ambition and commitment to using healthier materials. The company is proud of their focus on using good materials for people’s health and well-being and the CSR report reads like another testimonial from Tarkett :
Tarkett North America offers both residential and commercial flooring solutions that have been CERTIFIED asthma & allergy friendly® by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, in partnership with Allergy Standards Ltd. This certification program helps people make informed purchases for healthier homes, schools and workplaces. Only those products that pass stringent tests are awarded the designation. For flooring to be certified asthma & allergy friendly®, AAFA’s independent third-party testing must show that the floor is easily cleaned and has a low capacity for retaining allergens. The certification process involves testing not only the product itself, but also the installation method and recommended cleaning process as a complete system to ensure no harmful materials are introduced while installing or cleaning the floor. In 2020, Tarkett donated more than 2,000 square meters of asthma & allergy friendly® certified flooring through a partnership with Breathe EASY project in Washington D.C. (US)
Our Certification Program creates competitive advantage by addressing the needs of the approximately 60 million Americans who live with asthma and allergies. Run in partnership with ASL and the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, it provides clarity and confidence to consumers, allowing them to make better buying decisions. As the number of people with asthma and allergies continues to increase so to does demand for trustworthy asthma & allergy friendly® products.
“These aren’t just floors—they’re the essential foundation to creating spaces for holistic wellness,”said Margaret Bartholomew, healthcare segment manager, Tarkett North America.
