May is Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month and is a great opportunity for organizations dedicated to asthma and allergies, and for those impacted by asthma & allergies, to join together to increase awareness and improve the lives of all people with asthma and allergies. At Allergy Standards we are busy supporting our CERTIFIED clients this May so they are informed, educated and ready to raise awareness for those impacted by asthma or allergies.
Over 100 million people in the U.S. have with asthma or allergies – many have both. The statistics are sobering:
- Nearly 26 million people in the U.S. have asthma (20.7 million adults and 4.8 million children).
- About 20 million people in the U.S. have food allergies (16.0 million adults and 4.3 million children).
- About 80 million people in the U.S. have rhinitis due to nasal allergies, also called “hay fever” (66.4 million adults and 13.9 million children).
World Asthma Day
Acting as a great launching pad for the month, World Asthma Day falls on May 2nd. It is organized by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA), a World Health Organization collaborative organization founded in 1993 with the aim of promoting recognition and education of asthma awareness and it has become one of the world’s most important asthma awareness and education events in the world.
Since its inception in 1998, World Asthma Day has been assigned a different theme each year. GINA has chosen “Asthma care for All” as the theme for the 2023 World Asthma Day.
There are a number of gaps in asthma care in underserved communities which require changing in order to reduce needless suffering and poor health outcomes. At Allergy Standards we wholeheartedly embrace the goal to bridge the racial and ethnic gaps in asthma and allergy care and actively support our clients in all their ESG endeavours.
Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month at Allergy Standards
For us at Allergy Standards, Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month gives us the opportunity to focus on our CERTIFIED clients and to use the month to provide promotional and marketing support, carry out and share findings from research, and help educate consumers about asthma and allergies. It is a perfect time to help our clients communicate the importance of improving indoor air quality (IAQ) and also of course to help promote asthma & allergy friendly® CERTIFIED products.
Marketing Support
Social Media
All our clients receive a comprehensive pack of promotional and educational material that includes videos and infographics for use on all social media platforms, and sample social media posts related to asthma and allergies, IAQ, and the benefits of using asthma & allergy friendly® products. Throughout the month, we encourage our clients to get interactive on social media by highlighting Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month on their websites and social media platforms.
Professionally shot videos, featuring our CEO Dr John McKeon, are shared with all our clients and cover the scope of asthma and allergies, the impact of IAQ on health and wellbeing, and a bonus video explains the asthma & allergy friendly® Certification Program.
Webinars
In addition, there are specifically organised webinars to attend: The first, scheduled for May 3, will focus on the Allergy Capitals Report and how to utilize it in promoting certified products. We are delighted that the CEO of the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA), Kenny Mendez will be presenting in this webinar. The second, scheduled for May 9, will centre around IAQ and Equity and will be hosted by our CEO, Dr. John McKeon.
Education of our clients and of consumers is at the heart of our Certification Program so Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month is welcomed as a opportunity to focus completely on our valued clients. As the number of people with asthma and allergies continues to increase so to does demand for trustworthy asthma & allergy friendly® products so we want our clients positioned to help in the best possible way.
