On the week that ASL was shortlisted for the Business & Finance Media Group ESG awards it was fitting that our CEO Dr John McKeon was immersed in ESG related activities, events and learning opportunities in the U.S.
Business and Finance ESG Awards
ASL team members enjoyed a wonderful afternoon last week at the Business & Finance Media Group ESG Awards. A big congratulations to the winner in our category- Marino Software . The team were joined by Anne O Donoghue and Tom Early from Enterprise Ireland and Alan O’ Dea from Beechbrook Capital . We are very proud to have been nominated as a finalist for an award that is at the very core of the driving force of our company. The competition in the group was tough and included Arthur Cox, Fujitsu, Dalata Hotel Group and Telus International.
Workshop on the DNA of ESG certification programs for buildings
On day 1 in Nashville a full day workshop on the DNA of ESG certification programs for buildings made it clear how building owners, operators and managers have an obligation to consider how buildings impact on the health & wellness of the people who use those buildings. It is estimated that almost 2 million women and men around the world still die due to work-related accidents or diseases every year. If not managed correctly, workplaces can be a direct contributor to poor physical and mental health. On the other hand, work can be leveraged to drive significant positive health. More and more businesses are now prioritizing health and wellbeing and embedding it into their operations and culture. While traditionally this might have meant a focus on occupational health and safety, this is now evolving to consider employee health and wellness, more holistically incorporating elements of physical, mental and social wellbeing.
Panel Discussion at BOMA International Conference
At the spectacular Music City Center – a facility accredited by our colleagues GBAC – the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) International Conference marked the beginning of an exciting new era in commercial real estate. There’s never been a better time to refocus and rethink how commercial properties function and impact workers’ lives. At the core of BOMA is the built environment which is where our focus lies. One of our most recent new clients Knauf Insulation North America now offers CERTIFIED asthma & allergy friendly® insulation available at The Home Depot– who were Platinum Sponsors of the event.
William Sisson moderated an engaging and thought-provoking panel discussion with Dr. John McKeon, Rasha Hasaneen of Trane Technologies and CHES, Supriya Murthy of Arcadis and Zachary Flora of Center for Active Design. The four speakers shared a wide range of perspectives and strategies on helping business owners create spaces which enable a healthy and engaged workforce. The talk, entitled ‘Healthy Buildings, Healthy People: Strategies for Employee Well-Being and Sustainable Business Growth’, addressed the outcomes, strategies and insights into the future of employee health & well-being in the context of a healthy indoor environment. You can read all about it in BUILDINGS .
Leadership for Growth Program
While our team was enjoying the ESG awards event with friends and colleagues in Dublin, John was finishing up at the BOMA Conference and heading north to his next commitment in the U.S. From the IESE Business School Executive Campus in New York, where he completed an on-site week with the Leadership for Growth Team delivered by Enterprise Ireland, IESE Business School and Learning Partnership he tells us in the video above about the training in innovation he was privileged to receive from inspiring teachers such as Prof Mike Rosenberg. The cardinal role of ESG in modern company culture and leadership continued as a dominant theme throughout the program.
