A final video from ISSA ’23 Show North America completed ASL’s most recent whirlwind trade mission to North America that began at University of Colorado Boulder with Professor Mark Hernandez and Tess Eidem, PhD, PCQI.
Dr. John McKeon and Dave Morrissey CIO of ASL spent an immersive morning at the university and visiting the research facilities where their hosts shared their leading edge scientific data and details of in-depth studies that they are carrying out.

In California, Dr John McKeon presented the iAIR Institute‘s recent cutting edge research on air cleaning technology at the Annual Scientific Meeting of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI) to significant interest and acclaim.
The study titled “A Breath of Fresh Information on Air Cleaning Technology”, which was selected for inclusion in ACAAI’s official press kit for the event, was authored by Dr. Gráinne Cunniffe, Jennifer Whelan, Alannah Byrne, Dr John Ryan, Keri Lestage, PhD, PMP and Dr. John McKeon. The research’s key findings highlight the significant role air cleaners can play in enhancing IAQ, in combination with source control measures and adequate ventilation.
Dr. Cunniffe, the lead author of the study, emphasized the importance of their findings, stating
“HEPA filters remain most effective in removing airborne particles, including allergens and fine particulate matter. Additionally, activated carbon filters were found to be highly effective in removing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and odors. UV-based technology can be effective when used in filtered HVAC systems.”
The study’s recognition by ACAAI as part of their press kit underscores its significance in the field of allergy, asthma, and immunology. The iAIR Institute was proud to have its work highlighted at this prestigious event, emphasizing the Institute’s commitment to advancing and disseminating research, improving public policy and promoting the importance of healthier indoor environments for all.

At ACAAI, Dr. McKeon managed to fit in a catch up with Tamina O’Brien and Edwin Cheung from our long-time Certification Program clients, Rabbit Air.
This year at ACCAI there was a perceptible shift toward a holistic, multifactorial approach by physicians to the management of asthma and allergies. This means that indoor air quality is more important than ever, but the explosion in air cleaning technologies since the pandemic has led to a flood of devices on the market, and this comes with an associated risk of ‘well-washing’. Physicians are looking for validated air cleaners that they can recommend to their patients and third party certification provides this science-backed validation. The Certified Sweat X Sport Free and Clear manufacturers were represented by Obie Hydrick and George Nanchoff who ran a busy and impressive booth with Certified Sweat X Sport Free and Clear Laundry Detergent proudly on display.
Dr. McKeon’s talk at the ISSA Show North America was very well received by an audience that have clearly embraced the concept of cleaning for health. ASL’s role as a bridge between the medical community and the community involved in the built environment is critical in the multi-faceted approach necessary to solve the issue of indoor air quality and was clearly demonstrated by the link between his presentation of academic research at the ACAAI medical meeting with the ISSA 2023 commercial meeting.
